Who is Champion Credit Union:

Champion Credit Union was founded in Canton, NC in 1932. We are the oldest non-postal, public credit union North Carolina.

The credit union is a not-for-profit banking co-op owned by members, not by Wall Street.

For that reason, we have a long-standing history of providing financial benefits that banks can't even imagine.

When Champion CU first opened, its name was chosen because many of the original members were employed at a nearby paper mill, Champion International. In fact, the original office was inside the paper mill as a convenience to the workers. However, the credit union has always been open to the public and has grown from its humble beginnings to now serving over 20,000 members in Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Henderson, Madison, Swain and Graham Counties
of NC.

We are still headquartered in downtown Canton, but have locations in Arden and Waynesville.
